Encompassing legends of King Arthur, Viking raids, civil war and changing climates, the programme culminates aboard a reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake's famous vessel, reflecting on his circumnavigation of the globe and the musicians who accompanied the voyage.
Contemporary accounts record that "expert musitians" travelled with Drake, their viols providing moments of reflection and lament during the expedition. Inspired by these remarkable stories, the Morley Consort interweaves music with first-hand historical accounts to recreate the soundworlds of the Elizabethan period in one of the most fitting settings imaginable.
